The Asymmetrical Knit Top
The asymmetric top has one sleeve shorter than the other, has a nice waistline drape to disguise (ahem) tummy bulge, and provides interesting options for graphic and striped fabrics.
Have been intrigued by the asymmetrical top pattern since seeing it posted on various blogs and Instagram #drapedrape2.
And here it is.

It is a very simple pattern–one pattern piece from Drape Drape 2

- no.4 one-piece scoop neck asymmetrical top

As you can see from the middle photo, the book provides all instructions and it is clear to see this is a one-piece pattern which may be cut on a single layer of fabric and a couple of seams will make a quick & easy top.
All that is true, and a pattern is handily included on a couple of multi-pattern sheets. Four patterns from the book are on this one sheet of paper including the asymmetrical top. All patterns are outlined in Black except for one, which is in Blue–not the asymmetrical top, that would have been too easy.
So the hardest part has been just following the Correct Lines to produce a pattern.

McCall’s M6400
After months of puzzling over this road map and just when I was ready to attempt solving it, discovered this McCall’s pattern in my stash.
Full Disclosure: my fabric stash is only outdone by my pattern stash; just can’t seem to walk on by that SALE sign. 😏

The pattern is almost identical to the previous. The main difference is that it is two pieces; both front and back are identical. This proved to be a boon as was short on fabric and having two pieces allowed more fabric layout options.
Finally, was able to quickly trim out a pattern, cut the fabric and stitch.
Love it and will be making more. May even try my hand at accurately tracing off the drape drape 2 pattern.
Sewing Tips
- use a knit fabric with plenty of stretch and drape.
- neck opening is generous; I added narrow, clear elastic to the wrong side, turned neckline edge to wrong side (enclosing elastic) and hand-tacked in place.
- sleeve and hem edges are left raw; like I said, “Quick and Easy”!
